Annual Catholic Appeal
A Message From Bishop Warfel
The Diocese of Great Falls-Billings has been in existence for a hundred and fifteen years. Over these years, our shared belief in Christ and his Gospel has been passed onto many generations. Priest and deacons serving in the diocese have provided the sacraments to the faithful. They have baptized our children, witnessed marriages and celebrated the passing on of our loved ones. The celebration of Mass on Sunday has, of course, remained our foundation.
The local Church in Eastern Montana has been an instrument for holiness. What provides it a sense of the holy is the presence of Christ in the lives of our people who have known hopes and dreams fulfilled but who also have experienced struggle and sorrow in life. In some ways, it is through our struggles that our faith is strengthened and grows.
The faith we share in Christ has been a compass, pointing others to God.
As a people of faith, we affirm that the Lord is always near and within reach, always calling us to a deeper level of faith.
Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, in you we contemplate the splendor of true love, to you we turn with trust.
Holy Family of Nazareth, grant that our families and households, the domestic churches of Eastern Montana, may be places of communion and prayer, of love and mercy; authentic schools of the Gospel.
Holy Family of Nazareth, may our families and households be models of service and responsible stewardship of our time, energies, talents, and material and financial resources.
Holy Family of Nazareth, we entrust the success of the annual Care and Share Campaign to your intercession. May we follow your example and always courageously accept God’s call to support our brothers and sisters prayerfully and materially, especially those throughout the Diocese of Great Falls-Billings.
Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, graciously hear our prayer!
Over these hundred and fifteen years, the Diocese of Eastern Montana has endured many trials and has had to struggle to maintain our mission. I believe you, as a member of the Diocese, continue to hold dear to your faith in God and in the Church. We do so because we know the joy of God’s eternal love for us in Christ. Joy in life does not eliminate trials or struggle. But even if there is struggle, our relationship with the Lord remains.
It is my prayer that as we move forward as a Diocese, following the struggles of recent years, all of us will continue to grow in faith and be the strong, loving and wise disciples God has called each of us to be. In light of this call, I make this plea to you through the Care and Share Annual Catholic Appeal. I pray that you will join me and other members of the Diocese and support diocesan efforts to serve the parishes and individuals who make up the Catholic Church in Eastern Montana.

Charitable IRA Rollover – You may give up to $100,000 from your IRA directly to a qualified charity without having to pay income tax on the funds. The transfer generates neither taxable income nor a tax deduction, so you benefit even if you do not itemize your deductions. Your IRA charitable rollover gift can satisfy all or part of your required minimum distribution (must be at least 70 ½ years of age).
Securities – donate a gift of stock, bonds or mutual fund shares that have appreciated in value. These gifts will have an immediate impact on our appeal and create an income tax deduction for you based on their current value. Because there is no capital gains tax when you make a charitable gift, you receive an additional tax benefit above and beyond the charitable gift.
Livestock & Grain – We often give thanks to God for a bountiful harvest. Giving directly from the harvest or sale yard has become popular with some farmers and ranchers because of tax benefits and ease of donating an asset, rather than cash.
Mineral Interests & Royalties – God has blessed many in our diocese with increased oil and gas activity. Gifts of mineral interests, whether full or partial, will help the Catholic Church in Eastern Montana to carry out its mission for generations of Catholics to come.
